The sound of the gravel was the last thing I expected to hear. I was stepping into a taxi, my bags packed to revisit Milan, Italy — the city where I first started Legal-Ease International. One moment, I was a CEO on my way to the airport to reconnect with my roots and revisit another piece of the world. The next moment, I fell very hard on the gravel.
I had shattered my wrist and hand.
The flight to Milan took off without me. Instead of Italy, I got surgery, a heavy cast, and a complete travel ban. Alone in my condo, the silence started to feel heavy. For a woman of my drive, “staying still” felt like rotting in motion. I could feel the depression starting to creep in like a cold fog — the “what-ifs” of a missed experience in Milan.
But they only cast my arm; they didn’t cast my spirit. And they certainly didn’t cast my left index finger.
In these dark hours, I reached for my phone. I couldn’t even hold it, so I rested it on my lap. The screen glowed in the dim light as the CNBC live stream flickered in the background. At that moment, CNBC became my “stock family.” “Squawk on the Street” joined me for coffee every morning, and Josh Brown became the voice that gave me the incentive to hunt for innovation.
I got bit — hard.
I had owned stocks for years, but I had never actually traded. Now, I needed to make money, and day trading was a way. I couldn’t even dress myself without my left hand — my dominant hand. But I could use my index finger to tap and trade.
The stock market transformed my living room into a high-stakes global command center. My world lived inside a five-inch screen, glowing in the dark of my condo. I wasn’t just watching a ticker; I was navigating the interface of my future with a single finger, dodging the volatility of the crypto markets with the precision of a surgeon. My dominant hand was sidelined, but that left index finger became my most elite soldier. It was the only part of me that didn’t know how to stay still.
I watched MU (Micron Technology) like a hawk and analyzed everything from Shake Shack to the future of helicopter stocks. I dove deep into the clinical trials of ImmunityBio (IBRX) and began building my position in Berkshire Hathaway. I realized that while my own body was healing, the market was a living, breathing machine that I could command with a single touch.
Tap. Buy.
Tap. Profit.
Tap. Power.
After eight months of the most intense education of my life, I finally took my first flight out. I wasn’t going back to Milan — I was going to Omaha.
With my hand finally in a lighter cast, I traveled to the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting. It was my first time back in the sky, heading to the “Woodstock for Capitalists” to sit at the feet of the masters. Standing in that arena, I saw the very CNBC anchors who had been my only company in the dark days of my recovery. More than that, I realized I was in the same stadium as Bill Gates and Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook. Seeing them in person felt like a graduation. I wasn’t just a viewer anymore; I was a shareholder. I had earned my seat through the fire, and I celebrated by buying every souvenir I could find.
By the time the cast was removed, I wasn’t just a physical recovery story. I was a trader. I had transformed a season of profound depression and “brokenness” into a six-figure fortress. I proved that a true professional doesn’t need to be in a boardroom in Milan to command a market.
Today, my arm is strong, and my portfolio is even stronger. This story isn’t about the fall; it’s about the climb.
It started with focus, faith, and that first online trade… and the refusal to let a crisis go to waste.
